ONGC is on a mission to enhance India’s energy availability and that by itself is very critical to Nation-Building. Just like the other large PSEs that are the Maharatna Companies, ONGC is not just a creator of essential energy infrastructure in the country and directly and indirectly generates large scale employment opportunities, but also has a huge outlay of funds and resources for CSR, service to the community. Besides that, it is an essential service, one of the largest tax contributors to the govt. and is deeply committed to several of the UN global goals on human development. ONGC is one of the top 3 companies in the country with respect to CSR.
CSR footprints of ONGC can be traced in every state of our country starting from the tiny village of Yigi Kaum in Arunachal to Dahod district of Gujarat and from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir to southern tip of Rameswaram. In the last one year, ONGC has undertaken more than 4000 projects covering every nook and corner of the country.
ONGC undertakes its CSR activities in broad focus areas including education, health care, entrepreneurship, initiatives for physically and mentally challenged persons, women empowerment, and water management etc.
Apart from the volunteering activities undertaken by ONGC employees towards various projects in the local communities where they operate, with a view to inculcate the seeds of philanthropy early on, among its employees, new joinees while undergoing induction training at ONGC Academy are encouraged to take up a self-driven CSR activity. So, it is the company’s ethos that serving the community is an integral part of being an ONGCian.
