More than 700 employees in Bajaj Finance move through internal job postings every year. The sheer volume poses a challenge of ensuring a smooth and successful transition of employees that can help them become successful performers in the new role. Bajaj Finance facilitates this superbly through a program called SuperManager Studio. A combination of online and classroom-based pedagogy, this program takes the participants through a theatre-based depiction of actual workplace scenarios in order to develop people management skills, among other things.

Money on Call

A company in need is a great one indeed! Bajaj Finance Limited has a fantastic practice called ‘Money on Call’ where employees facing cash crunches in a particular month can request their salary in advance. All employees of Bajaj Finance Limited are eligible under this policy with a minimum tenure of 6 months in the organization. Employees can raise a request on their HRMS system and the amount requested cannot be greater than 80% of monthly gross salary. The amount is credited to the employees account in 2 hours! Such a comfort knowing that the company is always there to back you up!

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
Over the years we have built a culture of ownership within the company; it cuts across the hierarchy, business or function that one is in. With complete openness and transparency, employees are able to view their contributions to the whole at every step of their journey. This, along with our DNA of hard work and execution focus, makes it possible for every employee to contribute to the growth story of the company. This ownership to deliver results, to challenge, and to change old ways of doing things makes it engaging and meaningful for the employee. In return, our robust incentive and R&R approach ensure that we adequately reward and recognize the employee’s efforts and contribution. In addition, our philosophy of making the employee “own their career” through a fair and transparent Internal Job Posting (IJP) process, creates the right environment to make BFL a great place to work.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
There is a direct correlation between an engaged employee and the contribution s/he makes. A great workplace empowers and enables employees’ to tap into their passion, and inspires them to do their best. The results are visible in multiple ways; better products & services to our customers, faster turnaround times, better productivity, reduced attrition etc. which in turn helps us achieve our growth aspirations.

3. What are your top people priorities?
A large part of our senior leadership today is homegrown; we aim to continue to find our next set of leaders also from our internal talent pool. With our cultural anchors as our DNA, our current leadership is required to mentor & nurture the emerging talent pool. Additionally, as we expand into deeper geographies, creating a sense of connect among our employees on the ground is critical; developing employees, and deep geo touch thus forms our top priorities.

Critical skills shortage especially in the growing geographies of a fast-paced organization.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
We aim to be one of the most profitable organisations in the BFSI sector with a strong digital foothold, catering to market opportunities with an appropriate product mix and leveraging our employee strengths to mitigate the risk. We nurture each employee to control their career path and cultivate them as the leaders of tomorrow. In line with this, all opportunities are equally provided to all employees of the organization – whether it be their control over their career in the organization through an open and transparent internal job posting process, helping them make more informed decisions about their own health through our wellness initiatives, including their family in company celebrations or helping them contribute to the society through volunteering initiatives.
