They also host 16 health talks throughout the year along with a full health week covering nutrition and dietician. 1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
I believe in enabling our employees to perform above their potential thus creating a great environment where everyone is valued. We get exceptional results when we can get our teams focussed on what is core to our business while reinforcing our values.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?

Productivity is often misunderstood – It’s not just an organizational goal, my belief is that highly productive employees are more satisfied in their jobs. So creating an environment where our people are more productive and hence satisfied is what we would aim to achieve. Of course, apart from higher productivity, the benefits of a great workplace also include satisfied employees and hence a stable workforce.

3. What are your top people priorities?

My priorities are to continually transform Ciena India into an organization which has “psychological safety” where everyone feels empowered to do what is right for the company. This would lead us to be a high performing organization.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?

It’s been a good journey so far – we think that we are clearly one of the top companies in India to work for – and I personally want to see us really at the top of your list one of these days.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
Ciena is a high-tech product company, where distributed teams collaborate to deliver next-gen products and services. In Ciena, there are no hierarchies! The leaders including the CEO are approachable, communicative and role model Ciena values.

Colleagues have the freedom to take calculated risks that spurs innovation. Whilst there is a laser-sharp focus on performance and customer delivery, providing avenues to pursue individual passions via giving back to society, mentoring of underprivileged children, sports clubs, informal get-togethers and celebrations, are also integral to what Ciena is.

Ciena is committed to the wellbeing of employees and they can claim wellness reimbursements over and above their salary. In-house yoga, Zumba classes, gym, employee assistance program (counselling services), badminton courts, gaming zone (PlayStation, pool table, TT table, foosball), options for healthy food in the cafeteria and collaboration zones ensure employees have options to rejuvenate themselves for holistic well being.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?

To ensure a consistent workplace experience, it is crucial to have effective communication channels. Whether it is leaders or HR, the connectedness that exists via skips, round tables, buddy system, mentoring, out-reach sessions, ethics line, Women@Ciena, CienaNext (early in career employees) etc. helps bubble up feedback pertaining to what’s working and what isn’t, ensuring that the fabric of the organization reflects that values that are dear to Ciena.

There is also immense focus on highlighting and reinforcing our ethos around diversity, inclusion, code of conduct, ethics, respect for individuals & harassment. They are embedded in all people policies as well as reward and recognition schemes.
