Welcome back, Mommy!

In order to bring the women on a career break back into the workplace, Ernst & Young's ‘Back in Game’ initiative focuses on the needs of working mothers and helps ease their comeback into the workplace. The program guarantees working mothers, who are on break for maternity/childcare-related reasons, the choice of returning to work at any time within five years of leaving the organization. The re-hiring is conducted without a formal interview process. Research reveals that 91% of women who take a break in India want to come back to work, highlighting the fact that the intent to join back is high. EY ensures that returning after a maternity break is seamless for their women employees by guaranteeing that they will have something to come back to once they are ready.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
Today, we are faced with a key existential question – disrupt our way of working or get disrupted? The working world is not just evolving, it is transforming –technologically, demographically and socio-economically – so are our people. The alliance between humans and machines is ushering in a new era of work and the future of talent is unconstrained, connected, omni- channel and cognitive. The challenge is to align talent management with exponential technological advancements and prepare our people for tomorrow, today. The key differentiator therefore, would be our ability to impact intangible talent factors such as culture, leadership, Innovation, employee experiences, creativity and create an economic value for employees and organizations. At EY, to overcome these challenges our focus is on creating a workplace of tomorrow:

  1. Becoming a digital organization and re-wiring the cultural mindset to enable the same
  2. Integrating artificial and emotional intelligence - creating alliance between humans and machines
  3. Prepare for the future of work by upskilling to attract, retain and develop future talent

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
For us at EY, diversity of thought, skill, gender, generation, culture, etc. makes us stronger, and ensuring that all our people feel free to be themselves and have a strong sense of belonging is critical to us. Our leaders truly believe in the power of inclusion and consider the impact on people when making any decisions, and our people managers encourage and respect varying viewpoints . We promote equal opportunities for our people in everything we do and our focus has always been on providing our people with a career that is valued internally as well as externally. We also connect with our people on a regular basis to gauge their levels of engagement and track inclusiveness so as to ensure our people are consistently experiencing the “exceptional EY experience”. We work closely with Talent and Business teams to ensure diversity and inclusiveness is represented and leveraged in what we do. When we act on our commitment to D&I, we maximize the power of our differences to create the highest-performing teams, and achieve better business results for ourselves and for our clients.
