In order to maintain a viable Business Continuity Strategy that minimizes business disruption, the Business Continuity Program at HERE Solutions India encompasses planning and preparation to ensure that they continue to operate in case of serious incidents or disasters and are able to recover to an operational state within a reasonably short period. Each office premise has been assigned a dedicated team which is trained at regular intervals to handle a crisis situation. Thus, by clearly identifying incident management plans ensures smooth functioning of the organization.

1. What are the key foundational pillars of the culture at your organization?

2. What have been some of the business benefits experienced by your organization as an outcome of creating a great workplace?
We are a data-driven company and while anecdotally we can share many stories about how our values show up in teams’ everyday interactions, we know that focusing on a great workplace contributes to our employees’ engagement. And we do not take this lightly: we take their “pulse” every quarter with an online survey to measure our progress, given our company - as any tech company - is in a continuous state of adapting to a fast-changing business environment. We put the power of the engagement data into the hands of every manager, every quarter. As a result, we have created a high-performing culture that empowers employees to take decisions and excel at their individual tasks. This culture of excellence has also helped build a highly engaged workforce, which allows the organization and systems to mature faster, yielding efficiencies and business impact gains.

3. What were the biggest roadblocks that you faced on your journey of creating a great workplace and what were the key success factors in turning those around?
HERE Technologies became an independent company in December 2015. Previously, we were a business unit within Nokia that was comprised of several acquired companies that ultimately formed HERE Technologies. Emerging out of the Nokia culture, the India team had the basic HR structures and policies; however, it was still a comparatively young entity with limited local management bandwidth and maturity. The challenge for the team was orchestrating great people practices and then empowering and building confidence in local management to drive those changes. When HERE became independent of Nokia and I joined the company, I communicated our new strategy to become a true platform company. Early in that process, I realized how important it was for us to find a unique identity (building one brand) and culture to transform us into that type of company, instead of just merging the many different existing cultures. So we did the hard work. We rolled up our sleeves and did an intensive culture audit, and the resulting data helped define our values. From there we worked to instil every system and process – like the performance management process, quarterly leader/employee conversations and leader engagement – with our new ways of working and our values. Key to our success was the validation of a data- and employee-driven approach, as well as clearly defined behaviors for creating a successful way to work together. Our people are the single most important factor in creating a highly energized and empowered workplace.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
I am so proud of our India teams and this recognition has created greater visibility of their work within the company. It has improved employee morale, even more, provided a universal benchmark to help improve our practices and created an external employer brand presence. Many successful programs incubated in this team, and have been rolled out corporate-wide—from hiring practices to training, and engagement programs. We are attracting top talent because our employees are the best brand ambassadors. Their enthusiasm and passion to help realize our very bold vision are contagious, and that helps us to grow, attract and retain the best talent possible.

1. What have been the key success factors that have helped make your organization a great workplace?
As the CHRO, I aim to ensure my organization supports a high-performing work environment with the best possible experience for our most valuable asset – our people. We aim to create a truly inclusive culture where all our employees feel that they have a workplace where their diverse perspectives are appreciated and valued and where they truly feel they belong. With the right environment in place, I feel our employees are then truly empowered to do their best work. So ultimately, it is the combination of our people supported by an empowering culture that makes HERE a great workplace.

2. What are the top people priorities in the next two to three years?
Our people priorities are laser-focused in three areas to ensure that we support a high-performance organization.
1. Global Talent Mobility – Deliver a world class global talent pipeline by attracting, deploying,
developing and retaining our critical capabilities.
2. People First – Instill an operational excellence mindset and practices that enable us to build the best
solutions for our customers and to make it easy to work together.
