Why HP is a Great Place to Work?

HP has successfully created a Great Place to Work FOR ALL their employees as they have excelled on the 5 dimensions that are a hallmark of a High-Trust, High-Performance Culture™ – Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie. In a rigorous assessment process conducted by the Great Place to Work® Institute, HP met the minimum criteria on the Trust Index© Employee Survey, on the consistency of experience across all demographics and on the Culture Audit© People Practices Framework, to clear the first level i.e. getting Great Place to Work-Certified™.

Great Place to Work® is considered the
‘Gold Standard’ in workplace culture assessment and recognition.

As a certified organization, HP became eligible to be considered among 'India's Best Companies to Work For 2019' – a list that features the 'Best of the Best’. The process of identifying India's Best Companies to Work For is based purely on the assessment findings and does not involve any jury or opinion based criteria.

Eklavya

Disabilities Impact Network at HP concentrates on community and educational outreach, creating awareness and professional development. It has launched a program named Eklavya under which each business voluntarily hires specially-abled persons as trainees or interns and assigns them few processes or teams to learn about the work done. The funds for the same are sponsored by each business leader. At the end of the tenure, these resources are absorbed by the team or any manager who would want to employ them based on their performance during the training period. There are also peer sensitization workshops in place for the teams that have employed such ‘Eklavyas’. This initiative is a step to hire such valuable resources while simultaneously creating awareness.

Our feedbacks are being heard & quick decisions are made to ensure a better working culture. The entire team is always geared up to ensure 110% achievement of the assigned goals.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
Our vision at HP is to create technology that makes life better for everyone, everywhere — every person, every organization, and every community around the globe. This motivates us, inspires us to do what we do. To make what we make. To invent, and to reinvent and to engineer experiences that amaze.

For our business to be successful, we need the right talent and ensure that the talent is well equipped and motivated. Creating a workplace that is conducive for personal excellence, collaboration and high levels of productivity is critical. To that end, I personally focus on a) ensuring we are hiring the right people, b) investing in learning and development across levels, c) developing our leaders who are stewards of our business and brand, and d) fostering a culture that enables positive and productive work environment. I put our employees at the front and centre of everything we do. I have an open door and a non-hierarchical culture where we promote innovation and growth mindset as key drivers to our success.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
Creating a Great Workplace primarily helps in creating an engaged workforce. We measure employee engagement annually and our current employee engagement index is at 81% for India, which is a very high score. We see two benefits of high employee engagement. The first is employee alignment to business priorities and resulting high employee productivity. The second is a steady increase in retention at 90%. Our average tenure among the 7,500 employees in India is 6 years and the Executive Average tenure is 9.6 years.

3. What are your top people priorities?
Our Top people priorities are positioned under the umbrella of our Intentional People Strategy.

We believe that every employee should contribute with a Growth mindset, we believe that Growing Talent is very key to build our succession and future leadership pipeline. We also have spearheaded an aggressive sales culture, where we focus on attracting the right talent from campus through our HP Star program. We invest in wellness initiatives to ensure employees bring their best selves to work. Finally, this is all placed on the bedrock of a strong culture of Diversity & Inclusion as well as giving back to society through our Social Impact programs.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
The recognition from the Great Place to Work® Institute is an extremely coveted one and we have been pleased to participate and be honoured. This has helped us push ourselves and move forward to raise the bar for HP India. It has helped our strategic goals and also played an important role to attract and retain the industry’s best talent.
