Executive Chairman, Happiest Minds Technologies Private Limited

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
First, the realization that a Great Place to Work doesn’t happen by serendipity. Like any other business area, there have to be goals and programs/practices to support them. Second is that the foundation for a Great Place to Work is the Values of the company and everyone believing in them and living by them. As you know, in Happiest Minds our values lend themselves to an acronym SMILES: Sharing, Mindful, Integrity, Learning, Excellence, Social Responsibility.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
Firstly, belonging to a Great Place to Work creates pride in the team which has a positive reinforcing aspect. The next benefit is in creating a People brand which helps in attracting and retaining people.

3. What are your top People priorities?
The first and most important priority is people development including exciting career paths. This also includes challenging work by embracing the latest technologies.

The other aspect is that we want our people to share in the wealth creation at Happiest Minds. That is why we have way and above the largest stock option program in the industry. Our first 1800 persons were all granted ESOPs.

One of our other priorities for our people is that they lead happy lives, being mindful of their well-being – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, social and financial. We have a robust mindfulness training program that has covered 70% Happiest Minds and a comprehensive wellness program.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work helped your business and strategic goals?
The Mission of Happiest Minds is “Happiest People. Happiest Customers”. When we create a great place to work, we reinforce the Mission.

We also firmly believe that happiest people lead to happiest customers. This is also reflected in the high correlation we see in our people and customer satisfaction scores.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
A work culture that is inclusive, transparent, collaborative and welcoming. A workplace that is committed to contributing to the well-being of our members. Happiest Minds is dedicated to its mission of “Happiest People. Happiest Customers” and our commitment is visible through our various industry leading programs including Happiness Evangelism, Mindfulness, Co-Creation, Diversity and Inclusion, Unique Member Benefits and many others.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
The key people challenges that our industry is facing is the need for personalization of benefits and to converge the varied expectations from the diverse set of people working in the organizations. On one hand, as an organization you are directing towards building diversity in the organisation and on the other hand you are entrusted towards creating an inclusive yet personalized experience for them.

Another very critical people challenge is aligning your members to your organization’s purpose. You need to have people who are inspired by your mission, purpose; the team is closely watching your actions. In this socially active world with Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and others where people share everything – whether personal or professional, every action is closely watched. As an organisation, it is important that we are credible and our purposes and values are consistent all the time.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
Two important media that help our organisation to create consistency in our workplace experience is transparent Communication and Co-Creation. Communication definitely differentiates us; we follow a very robust, transparent, and regular communication through multiple channels whether informal or formal.

Second, Co-Creation. As an organisation, we have created multiple cross-functional teams who drive many strategic agendas including People areas like Reward and Recognition, Diversity and Inclusion, Circle of Happiness, Great Place to Work Charter, etc. These have representations from all our functions, practices, business units & competency levels, and create consistency in our initiatives and overall people experience.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Our association with Great Place to Work® is instrumental in driving our People agenda in the organization. The exhaustive analysis, benchmark studies and sharing of unique benefits, consultative approach of the Great Place to Work® members acting as a guide to build a great workplace; these are some of the key benefits we have derived from the Great Place to Work® team which helps us continue to move forward in our journey to build one of the “The Best Place to Work” in India.
