1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
I personally believe that making a great place to work is a continuous journey. A thriving workplace is built when everyone shares the same vision for the company and employees at all levels, has a sense of that purpose. This open culture in the company leads to equal opportunities for the employees. The cumulative result is a great place to work where each and every employee feels empowered to make decisions, are confident of their growth path and feels a strong sense of pride, ownership and accountability towards the brand.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
The biggest benefit of creating a great place to work is that you convert your employees into your biggest advocates. Happy employees are instrumental in creating a thriving business. It’s because of the commitment and the conviction of our employees that we have clocked 15 consecutive quarters of same-store growth and are a clear leader in our category.

We have also seen a marked improvement in our people metrics and the employee turnover rates have improved. The employees themselves are visibly happier and satisfied with their work and take pride in their association with McDonald’s!

3. What are your top people priorities?
The top people priorities are to create a high-performance culture and build a leadership pipeline for the future by continuous people development. We also aim to tap into the millennial talent pool in the country and nurture their professional growth. We are proud of the fact that we do not just train our people on running restaurants but impart skills for life, that are instrumental across careers and professional lives.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Our association with Great Place to Work® has helped us gain a macro perspective and understand industry benchmarking which has helped us to stay ahead of the curve. It has also helped us in learning and sharing of best practices beyond our sector and thus it enabled us to review our own people practice and take a deep dive into our system and helped to change and plan new people strategy.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
Fun, flexibility and growth. With a culture that is strongly focused on meritocracy, our employees can be assured of an open and inclusive workplace that encourages employees across the organization to share ideas and feedback, a steep learning curve and meaningful growth opportunities.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
Owing to its rapid growth, most of the retail industry players are vying for a strong talent pool, especially at the restaurant level. Given this, attracting and retaining talent emerges as one of the key challenges for the industry.

The other challenge is that in many parts of the country there is a societal stigma associated with working in restaurants. However, we work closely with influencer bodies such as the panchayats, school principals and teachers to dispel these as well as to showcase the career path one can chart by joining the McDonald’s family and even beyond that.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
We are very proud to say that we are an equal opportunity employer. We have built a work culture that is extremely inclusive and driven by meritocracy. The fact that we mostly recruit first-time jobbers and give everyone a level playing field with equal opportunities to tap into, so they can learn and grow within the organization as fast as they aspire to.

In our organization, employees across all levels, irrespective of their role, age or gender are empowered to share ideas, feedback and make decisions. We ensure that we have a robust training module available to all employees, we recognize and reward excellence and create an exciting growth path for our employees.

Our association with Great Place to Work® has helped us capture trends and review work culture basis the industry. Most importantly, it helped us decide how we want to differentiate ourselves. It also ensured that we annually take the time out to assess where we are in our course as well as vis-a-vis the industry.
