Lifestyle Ka Genius

How do you inculcate your values and your culture in your employees? Formal training? Mission statements? Well…Lifestyle gamifies the entire process and brings in the fun element to building a Great Workplace culture. ‘Lifestyle ka Genius’ (LKG) is a program driven across the frontline staff at the stores. The quiz program covers information on the SOPs, Landmark Group values, vision of the organization, policies, products and processes in formats such as Crosswords,Word Search, Fill-in-the-blanks, True/False, Scrabble, Fallen Phrases, etc. This has helped employees gain knowledge of the business, terminologies used in retail, organization policies, etc. The winning teams from each region come together every year to battle it out in the finale as well.


Grievance Redressal

Play In A Day

At Lifestyle, a unique theatre-based methodology is used to resolve day-to-day employee dilemmas. The ‘Play In A Day’ activity is used to bring to light few important issues that employees face every day at the workplace, like fairness, work-life balance, transparency etc. Employees are asked to nominate themselves to act in the Play in a Day. This methodology has been leveraged to depict the organization’s values in real-life situations where employees find themselves in every day. The idea is to show employees the dilemma and the right solution to the situation. An informal learning approach such as this is leveraged to educate, engage and entertain employees

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
My personal approach to making a great workplace is encouraging an environment of trust. I believe when people feel trusted by their managers and peers they instinctively want to live up to the faith shown in them. They feel empowered and approach their work with increased responsibility. This environment of trust then translates itself into other important qualities of a great workplace like transparency, pride and respect.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
Investing in people is investing in the business. Creating a great workplace has a ripple effect on business. Especially in an industry like retail, where most of our employees are customer-facing, an environment of trust, respect, fairness, transparency and empowerment, translates to great customer service. It also creates a feeling of ownership and employees are willing to go above and beyond what is expected to deliver great business results.

3. What are your top people priorities?
We live in a dynamic world where change is constant. To stay abreast, we must continually learn and equip ourselves to take advantage of this change. Retail, like other high growth industries, is undergoing digital transformation. Hence, learning and development are one of my top people priorities. As we develop our people internally, we create an agile workforce and a strong pipeline of leaders who can take the organisation to the next level.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
At Lifestyle International, we believe in continuous improvement. Our association with Great Place to Work® Institute has helped us in this endeavour. The report helps us assess the success of initiatives we have instituted within the organisation and brings to light areas of improvement which we must work on.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
We believe that one of our biggest differentiators, when compared to the industry, is our people practices. Over the years, we have built a culture of trust, respect, openness, transparency, fairness and inclusiveness. Our core values are the basis of our every interaction and hence we encourage a culture where we listen, empower, adapt and deliver while showcasing the highest levels of integrity. To our present and potential employees, we promise a supportive culture where they are empowered to achieve business results and their own aspirations.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
Omnichannel retail is a great opportunity for the industry as well as a challenge. For a traditional brick and mortar retail company that has entered the omnichannel space, we must ensure our employees are adequately trained in new technologies and are able to embrace this change. At every career level, right from our store representatives to the Management, we have been organising various learning interventions that would help in adapting to this change.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
We have always believed that employee experience should be consistent, whether at our stores or our offices. Hence, most of our benefits, programs and initiatives are extended across all career levels within the organisation. We also recently launched the Landmark Happiness Movement which encompasses everything we do for our employees into one umbrella and provides a singular employee value proposition across the organisation – to create exceptional value and bring happiness to lives of every employee.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
This is the seventh year we have participated in the Great Place to Work® Institute survey. From the time we first embarked on this journey, we have seen palpable changes in our work culture. The survey has helped us understand the perceptions of our employees and allowed us to bring changes where necessary to improve our employer brand.
