Inspiring

PREFER

PREFER is the name of their internal Employee Referral scheme. This is a key channel for our hiring strategy. Since their employees are aware of our value systems, work processes and skill sets required to succeed here, they are best placed to recommend good candidates to us.They believe that the reason behind PREFER’s popularity is that welcoming one’s friends and relatives into the MRHFL family creates a strong sense of bonding and inclusion in the new joinees. Employee referral also helps them to settle faster as they have been brought in by “brand loyalists” of MRHFL.

Grievance Redressal

Hello, Mate!

An effective way of handling grievances across a large, dispersed and diversified workforce, employees at Mahindra Rural are sure to have their voice heard. With access to a toll-free, multilingual employee call-centre, the employee can call and register their grievance. As soon as the employee reaches out, the agent tags the complaint to the respective HR team depending on the complaint type. A complaint needs to be resolved within 3 days and the request is closed after checking with the concerned employee. At regular intervals, the queries and challenges received are reviewed to understand the root cause and identify possible process improvements.

The atmosphere is very good in the company and everyone supports each other.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
A great workplace, we believe, manifests out of the collective conviction of a workforce to achieve the goals of an organization. The challenge here lies in cultivating this conviction in our 10,000+ strong geographically dispersed workforce. For MRHFL, a large portion of our personnel hails from rural India; which is why most of our endeavours in creating a great workplace are derived from a more nuanced understanding of our people and their priorities. In the 12 years of MRHFL’s existence, we have realized that the key tenets of ‘Recognition’ and ‘Care’ tend to resonate the most with our employees and this is what we frequently build on.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
Every step taken towards creating a great workplace brings us closer to achieving our aspiration – being counted among the most valuable home financiers in India. In our journey to create a great place to work, we have simultaneously produced a highly engaged team that constantly works to achieve our mission (Transforming Lives) and have subsequently raised our levels of customer satisfaction and profitability.

3. What are your top people priorities?
Our focus remains on productivity enhancement and employee engagement to effectively align our people with organizational objectives. This entails involving them in appropriate capability building initiatives and ensuring that their needs or concerns that are allied to their performance are addressed when essential. In addition to this, we believe in treating our “Champions” as part of one big family – a family that is prepared and eager to go beyond to serve the underserved.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
The study conducted by Great Place to Work® on our people management and workplace excellence practices has helped us recognize our strengths and weaknesses and devise strategies to strengthen/ re-evaluate our approach. Furthermore, having gained access to acclaimed external practices across other industries has given us a new perspective to bolster ourselves.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
MRHFL has a unique customer demographic – one that only harbours dreams of owning sturdy homes. Our employees, who are just like our customers, do more than just provide loans; they are change-agents and operate with a strong sense of purpose. Our role is to ensure they do well, along with doing good. Despite having a geographically dispersed workforce, where large segments of them are nestled in the interiors of 13 states, our employees can be sure of receiving a timeless and uniform experience wherever they may be, along with opportunities to enhance their capabilities and build enriching careers.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
In my opinion, one of the most recurring problems we face in an organization like ours is managing the aspirations of a rural millennial workforce. Such a demographic has its unique traits, but in some ways is similar to the urban millennial as well. Predicting what appeals to them in a constantly changing environment and motivating them to remain in the organization proves to be a challenge. We are thus continually devising new ways to communicate effectively with them and cater to their interests.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
Prolonged interactions with our unique workforce have led us to determine what makes MRHFL employees tick – being involved in transforming the world around them, building camaraderie and being recognized & compensated for efforts are a few of them. Consequently, we focus on these crucial elements that are important to employees from their perspective and direct our energies towards upholding this consistent workplace culture.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Great Place to Work® offers us multiple angles to look at ourselves – externally through the Great Place to Work® Institute and internally through our own employees. Firstly, the employee survey and Great Place to Work® insights have helped us reflect on the voice of our employees have given us a comprehensive view of our current situation, against which, we map our trajectory for the future. Furthermore, the employer branding through Great Place to Work® helps differentiate the MRHFL brand and enables us to attract the cream of the crop.
