All people managers at Mars are trained in a signature Mars people practice called HPC which they run with all their team members. When a team practices High Performance Collaboration, the leader aligns the team around a clear sense of purpose that creates the focus a team needs to reach levels of high performance. Based on this focus, individual team members agree to mutual commitments and accountability for collaborative relationships and to key team processes and ways of working. One of the essential practices in HPC is Inspire Purpose. Teams that practice Inspire Purpose create clarity and understanding about the unique value of their collaboration and how it adds value over and above their functional results.

The 5 principles and the Purpose of my organization is followed religiously. For me, this is unique and a strong motivating factor to work with this organization.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
Trust, Care and Camaraderie are the most important things that create a Great Workplace. At Mars, our endeavor has always been to provide an ambience that promotes the spirit of Entrepreneurship and we are strongly guided by our Five Principles to create an associate centric culture.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
At Mars, our Purpose of “Tomorrow Starts Today” defines the way we do business and we remain committed to our associates and the eco-systems where we operate. The Five Principles (our core values): Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom – guide us, empowering Mars associates to operate a business with an owner’s mindset. Our associate concept powered by unique‘You can be me’ program enables associates to bring their whole self to Mars. Our cutting edge digital learning solutions and signature leadership development program equip our leaders to create a quality growth which is sustainable.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?

Diversity is viewed in isolation without embedding an inclusive work environment that values and leverages uniqueness. As a result, most FMCG organisation are gender imbalanced.
This industry is yet to leverage the Digital space fully to accelerate sustainable growth – in this context, attracting and retaining talent from the E- Com/ D-Com sector remains imperative. Organisation design can be more efficient and effective, we have some distance to cover in leveraging external expertise and scale.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?

‘Every associate in Mars deserves a Good Great Line Manager’ which is manifested through an initiative called – “Great Line Management” (GLM program) at Mars. It is basically designed to create an atmosphere where Line Managers are responsible for creating an environment that allows everyone to succeed. We strongly believe that a successful and future proof organization needs Line Managers who lead from the front and understand their associates fully.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?

Culture is a key enabler for our organisation and Great Place to Work® provides a robust method to understand, fix and transform it. We need an enabling culture to enhance associate experience and business excellence.
