Puma encourages STYLE and SPORT. They have designed a way to inspire these 2 elements by introducing the Puma STYLE CARDS. These style cards are given to those who live the brand and are absolutely stylish. In house style ambassadors are given the right and duty to award all those employees who are stylish and present to them a Style card. This is like an award which inspires/encourages employees to live the brand and be stylish.

1. What is your approach to making a Great Workplace?
A great workplace is formed by happy and motivated teams; therefore, I believe creating a people-centric organization is the key to success. Having achieved the No. 1 position, PUMA is a market leader in the Sports and Lifestyle segment. The brand is also the first to have attained profitability in the Indian market in just three years of its operations. We would not have achieved this without our people-led success story. And, we can’t continue to be a great brand with a fantastic business, unless we have an environment where people excel. There is a firm belief that happy teams create great business results to be happy about. It’s a cycle which one must try and get into.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
There are multiple benefits to creating a great workplace. For one, people bring their best selves to work every day and that to me is one of the most important aspects of making PUMA a great workplace. In addition to this, it also creates a shared sense of purpose, driving innovation and creativity at every step of the process. It promotes constant learning, greater efficiencies, and higher retention that in turn positively impacts business results.

3. What are your top people priorities?
1. People-first approach: My key job at PUMA is to ensure that most people working here look forward to their Monday mornings. As mentioned before, I strongly believe that happy people make happy business. The solution lies in hiring the right people, who can quickly assimilate with the organization’s culture and having the best practices with regards to people, processes, and policies. And most important - constantly communicating and demonstrating the essence of the organization makes it a great workplace.

2. Peer-to-peer learning and development: At PUMA, we believe in creating cross-functional peer-to-peer learning opportunities through collaboration. That means creating a culture that thrives on shared-values, innovation, transparency, and risk-taking to help our employees learn and succeed. With this in mind, we launched a new initiative called Catalyst this year, which aims at driving innovation across the value chain. Through this, employees irrespective of their role or seniority can submit ideas on how to improve the way PUMA does business. At the end of the project, the winning team is rewarded with 10% of the incremental EBIT generated when their ideas are implemented.

3. Disrupting traditional leadership – We have never believed in traditional hierarchies. We look to empower and enable our employees to participate and co-own responsibilities. Directly contributing to the problem-solving process has proven to be far more rewarding and engaging for our teams.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
External benchmarking helps us understand where our organization stands on various parameters. While it highlights our strengths, it also gives us perspective on areas for development. As a result, we continue to reaffirm our focus on people-led policies and have introduced several initiatives like childcare and self-education policy. In addition to this, improving our ranking year after year has helped advance our employment brand perception in the industry as well.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
We have always believed that innovation is the back bone of a high growth organization. A culture that fosters innovation, creative thinking and freedom is something that one is sure to find in PUMA – today or tomorrow.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
With the world around us getting digital by the minute, we have had a to change how we think and work, and have onboarded new skills, technology and a digital mindset. We have some great opportunities in the tech space today and one of the challenges for us today would be to communicate our tech strength and opportunities to prospective employees

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
Our workplace experience is built on 3 key pillars – Engage, Learn and Retain – for all the 3 pillars, the opportunities that the employees are provided cut across the regular bars of role, age, gender etc. Eg, we have a program called Catalyst where employees work on cross functional projects in teams which are based on what thought leadership you bring to the table and not what your role or seniority is in the organization. Similarly there are many other platforms in place that promote an inclusive and diverse culture where everyone has the freedom to express, learn and grow.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Our people are the key to us being the market leader in the country and our association with Great Place to Work® helps us reaffirm our focus on them. Our attrition numbers are coming down year on year, while our revenues are going up. Our stable employee population and the culture of continuous learning and growth has helped us create strong leaders internally which keeps us stay ahead of the competition. Our employees are extremely proud to be part of one of the best workplaces in the country.
