Hiring Hack

The Women Hackathon is an exclusive event at Pegasystems where women techies are invited for a problem-solving exercise as a part of the hiring process. A great platform for women to showcase their technical expertise, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. The event has successfully generated 7 women hires at Pega previously. They even have a voluntary club of women employees, the Pega Women Ambassadors who interact with prospective candidates, share their perspective and even act as buddies when employees join the organization.




To know the person beyond his resume and the interview, Pegasystems shares with him the “PARICHAY” document, which attempts to know the person, a little more personally. This document is then shared with the team and manager to help them know the impending hire at a personal level and create an atmosphere of familiarity, on the day one of new hire.

I am associated with this organization for almost 10 years now, have seen the organization evolve which nurtured me to play all my roles so far with comfort. Management tried finding out my area of interests, took special care in helping me to pave my way as per my interests.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
I believe that creating great workplaces starts with an understanding of what great looks like. People managers need to be enrolled in this grand vision and their commitment is a critical enabler. Leaders should partner with each other by providing insights and support around physical, emotional and social wellbeing of our talent.

All in all, this must be an orchestrated effort with my team passionately engaged.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
A great workplace which breeds highly engaged employees positively impacts the organization, clients, customers and their communities.

The branding helps attract bright talent and results in low turnover rates of our talent.

3. What are your top people priorities?
Talent attraction is one of our key strategic imperatives coupled with talent engagement and development. As a first step, we are reviewing our structures, processes and approach towards talent attraction. Strengthening our entry gates, we believe, will be a pivot in the talent management space.

We also want to double down on our effort in the D&I space. We have been rated as a great workplace for women and we wish to sustain this ranking, extending it further to other quarters.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
The Great Place to Work® assessment framework especially the people practice lens has given us a holistic way of reviewing our engagement with talent and understand our strengths and improvement goals.

One of our strategic imperatives of developing our organizational capabilities to be an “as-a-service” company, I believe got a fillip by this association. We were able to set our baseline in the first year and the subsequent assessments were reflective of the progress that we wanted to achieve in the space.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
Our key focus has been people – always! Anyone who works for us can be assured of a fast paced, high performing, learning organisation. We lay emphasis on teamwork, collaboration and best-in-class facilities for our employees.

We ensure we have a culture that is professionally rewarding as well as personally satisfying.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
For the industry, the primary challenge is the availability of skilled talent.

From an employee perspective, the constant change and rising expectations are accompanied by stress. Therefore, they must passionately own their development and organisations have a responsibility to create a culture that supports this effectively

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
All of our policies are inclusive. The management is committed to the same and when we are reviewing our policies and practices, this is one thing that gets primary focus.

We have also instituted a “Voice of the Customer” committee which includes employees from across regions, gender, grade, function etc who give inputs to all people decisions that the Company is set to make.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Our association for the last 3 years has been very rewarding for us. It has helped us continue to improve our people practices thereby improving employee engagement. This is critical for us as we work on mission-critical projects from our R&D centres in India.
