Synchrony Financial has refined the double-edged sword with boosting employee satisfaction and creating a customer rewards initiative with this one. The Working Forward Awards are presented to the top 5 small businesses that have created the biggest impact. Each winner is awarded a whopping $20,000 to divide between further growing their business and bettering their local community. This unique way of boosting customers businesses has an equally positive impact on employee pride in the company's products and services. Winners of this award are featured in videos on the company's intranet portal. Employees take pride in seeing how the effect of Synchrony's products and support of clients are making them drive positive outcomes for the community.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
As an organization that is constantly ‘Changing what’s possible’ – we believe in setting bold objectives to make sure that we create the type of workplace where employees are encouraged to bring their thoughts and ideas to the forefront. We realize that it is ‘Together’ that we make an impact-not just with our customers, but also with one another. At Synchrony, we have six core values that shape who we are and how we interact with our colleagues, partners and communities- Honest, Passionate, Caring, Responsible, Bold, Driven. They may mean different things to different people, but at the core -this is what builds us- our culture, our identity as one team and one that is driven to constantly looking for ways to ‘Change what’s possible’.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
Synchrony believes in ‘building a future where every ambition is within reach’. And we work towards that each day by encouraging our employees to bring their happy and comfortable selves to work. We make sure they have every opportunity to improve the customer experience while continuing to build the company by supporting, guiding and making their individual ambitions a reality. This is what makes a great place to work, where Ambitions are alive and built. We respect differences and notice that what sets us apart is also what brings us together, building an equitable and high-performing work culture.

3. What are your top people priorities?
We’re a company of individuals with different perspectives and unique ambitions. But we share strong values, a common purpose and a bold commitment to do the right thing, continuing to build this culture that inspires and unites us, will remain a top priority. Communicating our shared vision of ‘building a future where every ambition is within reach’ for every employee while listening and encouraging employee feedback is also very critical to us. At Synchrony, we strive to create an open, transparent work environment and believe in constant feedback that helps us attain our goals. We have various floor walks, employee roundtables, panel discussions, town halls, digital platforms that allow us, as leaders to our employees and learn from them.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Everyone has their own unique ambitions, which they work forward to. At Synchrony, we help fulfil ambitions. For our customers, we do it by financing purchases and healthcare and being one of the largest providers of private label credit cards. For our employees, we do it by offering the chance to contribute to the customer experience, supporting our team in and out of the office, and sharing our success as we continue to build this company together. Our employees and their appreciation for the culture that we thrive on is of paramount importance to us. Being recognized as a Great Place to Work reinforces our commitment to creating an environment that attracts new employees while simultaneously keeping current employees happy and involved. We also continue to use this assessment to identify areas where we have opportunity to improve and continue to make Synchrony an even greater place to work.
