Lights, Action, Experience!

Ujjivan has professionally shot and created a movie to communicate the values we hold dear and to also introduce customers to the various facilities available at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank. This video, called the ‘Branch Experiential Video’ is displayed to all staff members at the respective Staff Launch event of every new Bank Branch and is also continuously played at all Bank Branches.

Ujjivan worked along with Parinaam to conduct an Annual Summer Camp for the children from the ultra-poor communities that Parinaam works with. Ujjivan employees volunteered, to bring in light into the life of these kids. The 5-week Summer Camp is held in the communities that they reside in, Monday through Friday. The children partake in a plethora of activities that keep them engaged during the day.

For Ujjivan, employees come first and are held accountable, creating a sense of their roles and responsibility leading to self-development makes this a great workplace.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace? Employees are key stakeholders of the organization, at par with customers, investors, regulators & the community we work in. The organization’s objective is to be the best for every stakeholder. An ‘Employee-First-Approach’ is what makes Ujjivan a great place to work. We support and encourage employees through extensive training programs & growth opportunities to build a career with Ujjivan. When Ujjivan evolved into a bank, the count of our employees doubled and new policies, processes and products were introduced. Yet, we ensured that the core values that held Ujjivan together were never compromised. We invested heavily in training & upskilling ‘Ujjivanites’ and took all our employees along. More importantly, we have a wonderful culture of caring in the organization, where we assist employees and customers during distress, whether natural or manmade. We consciously persevere to better our employee experience each year. 2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace? Being in the service industry, we believe that happy employees create happy customers. Employees at Ujjivan feel cared for & valued. In turn, they also treat customers in a similar manner. 1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization? Ujjivan is a people-centric organization. Our commitment to a ‘people-first approach’ and the core values of ‘respect for individuals’, ‘integrity’ and ‘fairness’ is fundamental to our culture. We have always proactively engaged in the development of our employees. Even during our transition, we took a bold step to move all our employees from Microfinance to become Bankers. We also prepared them for new responsibilities in the bank. We also have an open culture within the organization which allows for easy communication. Above all, our employees derive a lot of pride and satisfaction from doing meaningful work that builds better lives for our customers. 2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing? The concept of Small Finance Banks is introduced to bring scale and impetus to financial inclusion in India. The challenge that we are currently facing in the industry is to find people who are aligned to this purpose and have the agility to deliver outcomes. 3.
