Join the Design Squad

They launched this initiative ‘Join the Design Squad’ which is a way of inviting their internal customers – their employees to contribute to the design of their bags. It is a collaborative approach used by the organization/ design function to seek understanding of consumer usage pattern of any type of travel accessories. All employees are free to share their responses in a prescribed format to help the design function/ VIP on delivering better design solutions for end users.

Cafe Talk - Weekly Newsletter

Café talk is a forum to showcase stories across the organization – industry accolades, in house achievements, success stories, R&R, new product launches, new store opening, training & workshops, run down of events within VIP, talent depiction, Pulse initiatives & celebrations, practices around our culture, customer stories, interview snippets of our CMD, VC-ED and such others. It doesn’t stop here, to involve & engage with our readers, we also run ‘Quiz of the Month’ at the end of every month where the winners are given cash prices. Café talk reiterates a sense of pride in our employees, of working with a great brand – where work is complemented by fun & celebrations.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
An organization comprises of people & process, besides the product. One can only make an organization a great place to work if we nurture good talent and put in great processes. Typically some companies are good with people while some companies are great with processes. But a Company is Great when there is an amalgamation of both these factors.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
A great workplace can be mirrored to a great showroom where both the aesthetics and quality of the merchandise is good. Like any retailer would tell you great showrooms bring in great businesses, similarly, a great workplace keeps employees motivated which in turn make for high productivity.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
We pride on our core values of Meritocracy, Youthfulness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. These values are manifested in our people processes & practices. For e.g.: Meritocracy is reflected in our talent management ecosystem where people are empowered to take on early responsibilities. Likewise, Innovation - there is plenty of opportunities to create; be it design, product or process.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
We are gradually shifting from being a seller’s market to a buyer’s market given stiff competition from multiple players big & small. This has been putting pressures on margins. An imminent offshoot of this scenario presents people challenges like –
1. Increasing productivity & efficiency and
2. The ability of people/ employees to be able to address the present while also focussing on the future.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure etc. in the organization?
Employee experience is anchored on social cohesion, meaningful work and work environment. The sustenance of some of our properties like – Pulse (meaningful engagement), Gurukul (learning platform), Pragati (development centre), V Connect (Town Halls) and such other practices help promote inclusivity and consistent experiences.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
The Great Place to Work® framework of workplace assessment has helped us reflect on the cultural strengths of our organization, look at best practices in other industries and address gaps. It has been providing us, an organization-wide formal forum to get a pulse of the organization.
