Aligned with its Road Safety Vision and Mission, the company has taken the target to reduce road deaths by 10% by 2020 - by producing high-quality safety products and creating awareness to people through different forums, like organizing roadshows, walkathon, "no honking campaign", nukkad natak, snake & ladder, visiting schools for road awareness, national highways, toll-plazas, with the help of NHAI, rahgiri (every Sunday morning), Wall of Kindness-Neki Ki Diwar (donation of old clothes to needy), to name a few.

Hella India Lighting has a great practice for the same-named "TellUS!" which is an internet-based reporting portal. The employees can use it to report any serious misconduct. The company strongly believes that employees must have confidence that they can freely report concerns that are investigated by subject matter experts, with appropriate remedial action, and without fear or favor. So, what are you doing to strengthen that pillar of trust in your organization?

Working culture is very good and homely. It gives a sense of coming home and not a workplace. We stand united in celebrations and in difficult times.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
“Trusting & Challenging” each other and work like a family driven by the passion of Higher Purpose. Challenge each other to settle nothing less than only the best, 2nd to none, yet preserve the deeper sense of Trust and security surrounding us. Always driven by “What’s in my Hand” approach. Our profound purpose to save Indians on Road gives us the ultimate pride & hence trusting & collaborating becomes a natural choice at the workplace.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace? 
Highly engaged workforce committed to stretched business goals achieved high double-digit growth in revenue generation over a stable 10 years period and more than a proportional positive impact on EBIT. It was an excellent example of a turnaround for an organization with the history of BIFR and having huge accumulated losses from the past. Winning back lost customers and the acquisition of a large portfolio of the customer is another ongoing benefit. Highly innovative Product development teams made us the “Most Innovative Enterprise” in the midsize manufacturing category by CII in 2017. These consistent good performances helped us gain business confidence among the management team of our parent company Hella Germany and opened up new markets for exports.

3. What are your top people's priorities?
100% Members of our Team take charge of their Learning & Development on a continuous basis and all superiors demonstrate job content as the means for achieving People's development and not otherwise. Every member of the team act with Entrepreneurial Accountability. Celebration of unique Human Diversity & preserve them like a Fruit Salad. United in overall Purpose yet preserving individual perspectives. Personal Growth always being matched with overall Organisational Growth.

Like the superior quality of our Products & Processes has been our Business Card to get us respectable entry and credibility among large OEM Customers, the same is happening due to our Great Place to Work® Certifications. 1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
Our Potential Employees are sure of Fun Place to Work Culture with a real family atmosphere and Entrepreneurial culture at our organization. Freedom to act leads to empowerment and without any hierarchical approach our Key Employees are sure of their ownership related to any projects. It’s not about any designation, actually, the one who owns the project, employees from all level reports to that key person.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
We are at a remote location in Derabassi (Chandigarh), people want to work in fast-paced competitive cities like Metropolitan cities hence attracting talent for relocation at our place is the biggest challenge we are facing.

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure, etc. in the organization?
Involvement of all to work for a common goal. We are ensuring HR competencies & leadership in all people managers so that they can manage their respective team members with the HR mindset approach immediately & consistently. We regularly do open forums in which we promote Trust and Challenge culture in the organization and motivate employees to give clear feedback for the improvement in culture or any systems and policies.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
There is a people-first culture in our organization, Great Place to Work® helps us to benchmark good policies & interventions at regular intervals and also give detailed & valuable people feedback on all Trust Index parameters which helps us to focus on improvement areas and by doing that we sustain one of the best cultures in the industry.
