Celebrating

The Biryani Day

Every year at Zifo, as an act of celebration, they invite the best Biriyani-maker in chennai to cook some incredibly sumptuous Biriyani for the entire Zifo team. every year there is a big leap in their team size, and this also seems to intensify their collective love for Biriyani. on this Biriyani Day, the entire Zifo family comes together in the cafeteria and enjoys a nice meal together.

Speaking

Boomerang

Zifo R&D Solutions provides a platform for all storytellers in office and everyone who wishes to take a short break from work and seek entertainment. They have named this initiative 'Boomerang' wherein the storyteller, most likely a fellow employee would kick-start the ceremony with a prologue and continue his way with pictures and anecdotes, amidst audience’s laughter and curious attention. Creating a mini-TED kind of environment for internal and external speakers presents a perfect opportunity for employees to connect, speak, share similar experiences and bounce back feeling refreshed and energized.

The fact that the majority of the workforce is comprised of women makes it very special to believe that the organization doesn't stereotype people in a way that the rest of the society does. It's motivating to see that the taskmasters and the task takers are women. The organizational ideology in not discriminating people on what they are and instead focussing on who they are and how to make them better individuals makes this a great place to work.

Employee Testimonial

The employees are treated as people rather than resources. That's the best thing any organization can do to make the employees happy. What else can an employee wish for when your CEO comes and wishes you every morning and keep asking you about your recent client or personal trips and the on-site projects.

1. What is your personal approach to making a Great Workplace?
People can choose to conduct their business either like a game of chess or a game of cricket. If conducted like chess, every team member becomes my pawn and I will be able to control when and how to use which piece. If like cricket, everyone becomes an equal team member, and we all play to win together. I prefer cricket over chess in my workplace.

2. What are the top 2 benefits you see of creating a Great Workplace?
1. In a great workplace, culture is not the responsibility of one person or the HR department. Every single Zifo-ite holds accountability for the Zifo culture, be it our senior leaders or our newest entrants. Our culture empowers each Zifo-ite to be its custodian, by giving them the freedom and power to be the face of Zifo.
2. Individuality and teamwork are often thought to be incompatible. However, within Zifo, I see a great synergy among my team members in the way they explore each other’s potential to deliver a service that delights our customers and makes us extremely proud, not to mention the joy of self-discovery we experience in the process.

3. What are your top people's priorities?
Empowering our high potential team members has been one of our top priorities, to which end we have continued to identify team members with the ability to take up ownership in order to enable them through intense and dedicated mentoring sessions. My people's priorities for this year are to continue this endeavour and also to focus on nurturing grassroots decision making. Like how governmental decision making is distributed across multiple levels from the national parliament down to village panchayats, I would like to focus on empowering all sections of my organization to take decisions and lead. When this distributed decision-making system is achieved, it is sure to give disproportionate results in the form of uniform ownership and a bottom-up movement of innovation and progress.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
Zifo has been recognized by Great Place to Work® for the past four years. In our people's engagement and enablement journey, earning this recognition has given us confidence and motivation to progress ahead. We have noticed that creating a great workplace helps delight our customers, empower our team members and run our business soulfully.

1. What can your present and potential employees be sure of from a work culture perspective in the organization?
What we aim through any of our organizational initiatives is to give all our people the right to have their say in all matters concerning their workplace. Everyone in our organization can be sure that they will be listened to and what they are sharing will be evaluated solely on its own merit. This is also a promise we make to our potential employees by way of publishing it in our employee handbook as a ‘Promise of Fair Treatment’. Personally speaking, I will be sure that Zifo will give me a fair chance to speak out anytime and about anything without judgment, and if there is merit in what I have to say, that it will be acted on without hesitance.

2. What, according to you, is a people challenge your industry is facing?
There are quite a few inherent people challenges in our industry.
1. Availability of skills: Appreciating the diversity in people’s backgrounds, the industry should focus on closely interacting with individuals to identify any gaps in their skillset and enabling them through personalized training programs.
2. The employability readiness of candidates is not matching expectations. To resolve this, the industry is required to come up with programs to make people prepared to take up responsibilities. However, this is found to impact the speed at which the organization is able to respond to the demands of the global market

3. How are you ensuring a consistent workplace experience FOR ALL your employees, irrespective of their role, age, gender, tenure, etc. in the organization?
1. A consistent workplace experience for all was our very objective when we decided to remodel our workplace to make it an open space, where all our people, irrespective of seniority, age or gender, sit together with no cabins or partitioned desks.
2. As we removed partitions, we also did away with doors as none of us seemed to like it. So, if you happen to walk through our workspace, you can be sure to meet anybody and everybody and ask to talk over a cup of coffee.
3. Our Christmas 2018 celebration was organized by a team member who has been with us for over 5 years, while an important training program for the entire organization was organized and conducted by a person who joined in 2017. Anyone could opt to drive a program for the organization in a way they think best for all.

4. How has your association with Great Place to Work® helped your business and strategic goals?
1. Within Zifo, we measure our people’s satisfaction at work using ‘Happiness Index’ - a platform where people can express their feelings at the click of an emoji – and have a track record of receiving positive responses regularly.
2. Our retention rate also has been industry-best at 92% annually.
3. Recently we developed a chatbot on our website to let our website visitors send us questions or messages. After this, our sales team has often complained to my department that most of the questions they are receiving are from candidates eager to join Zifo. Also, even in our campus recruitment programs conducted every year, we are seeing an increase in the interest among the colleges’ placement officers and potential candidates. I see this as a testament to sustaining a positive workplace culture and its recognition by Great Place to Work®.
