Breakthrough was founded in 1999 with the mission of using arts and culture to transform the gender norms that perpetuate violence and discrimination against women and girls. We did this by bringing these issues, thus far perceived as private, into mainstream conversations and inspiring people to take action for change. The usage of multimedia, art, and culture helped us connect with large audiences to enable behaviour change in them. Our mission is led by young people aged 11 to 25.
