Business Description:
The Deshpande Foundation’s largest operation is based in India and addresses challenges of rural and semi-urban regions. Over 700 staff work in the areas of agriculture, skill development, micro-entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship. Over the past 12 years they have:
- Helped over 120,000 farmers to significantly improve cotton productivity and provide better market linkages
- Developed over 6,000 farm ponds, improving farmer livelihoods by 2X to 5X
- Built a state of the art 300,000 sq. ft. training campus, trained nearly 10,000 youth and bridged them into employment
- Trained over 14,000 micro-entrepreneurs and significantly increased their income with connections to markets
- Built a 100,000 sq. ft. incubator, the largest in India, generating startups and solutions to address the bottom 1.1 billion. These startups have swept an all Karnataka competition two years in a row.
