Talk to a human!: The idea was to connect with employees at an emotional level, talk to employees as a human than as a department, share stories and words of motivation, and engage with them. We had not sent such emails in the past and experimented, but employees loved it so much that we started sending it out frequently. They got a lot of great feedback from employees on such emails – some said they got hooked onto it and would look forward to Tuesdays and Thursdays when those emails would come, some said those emails were therapeutic for them, and some said that they be teary-eyed reading those emails. Employees said they felt cared for, and some said that those emails captured exactly what they were going through and gave them the hope that things would be better.     

Collaborative Goal Setting: They believe that a process as important as goal setting cannot be a process owned by the manager alone, but should be one where the manager and employee have an equal role to play. The goal-setting process is a quarterly process where the manager sets goals in conjunction with the employee. Once they discuss and agree on the goals, the manager uploads it on the system and the employee has to accept it on the tool itself to indicate that they understand and accept it, a step which is very important to confirm understanding and acceptance.
